James Fritsche<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Luther\u2019s Explanation of the Second Article<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>I believe that Jesus Christ, true God, begotten of the Father from eternity, and also true man, born of the Virgin Mary, is my Lord. Who has redeemed me, a lost and condemned person, purchased and won me from all sins, from death, and from the power of the devil; not with gold or silver, but with His holy, precious blood and with His innocent suffering and death, that I may be His own and live under Him in His kingdom and serve Him in everlasting righteousness, innocence, and blessedness, just as He is risen from the dead, lives and reigns to all eternity. This is most certainly true.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Who is Jesus Christ? (<strong>Person<\/strong>)\n<ol>\n<li>True God<\/li>\n<li>True Man<\/li>\n<li>MY LORD<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ol>\n<li>How did Jesus become my LORD? (<strong>Work<\/strong>)\n<ol>\n<li>He redeemed me (why?)<\/li>\n<li>He purchased me (not with gold or silver)<\/li>\n<li>He won me (from sin, death and devil)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ol>\n<li>Why did Jesus do all this? (We are the <strong>Children of God<\/strong>)<\/li>\n<li>Confession \u2013 our acknowledgment that we have failed to be the children God wants us to be (We are the <strong>Fallen<\/strong> Children of God<\/li>\n<li>Absolution \u2013 our sins are forgiven and we are restored (the <strong>Forgiven<\/strong> Children of God)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ol>\n<li>The Service of the Word (the <strong>Person<\/strong> of Christ)\n<ol>\n<li>The<em> Kyrie<\/em>: \u201cLord have mercy\u201d \u2013 the cry of those suffering from the \u201cwages of sin\u201d and in need of deliverance (corresponds to Advent as we wait for the Lord\u2019s deliverance)<\/li>\n<li>The <em>Gloria<\/em>: \u201cGlory to God in the highest and peace to His people on earth\u201d \u2013 God has heard the cry of His people in distress (like Israel in Egypt) and has sent the Savior (corresponds to Christmas as we join in the song of the angels announcing the birth of Jesus.<\/li>\n<li>The Collect, Lessons, Hymn of the day, Sermon and Creed: \u2013 we reflect on who Jesus is in prophecy and fulfillment and for our daily lives (corresponds to Epiphany as we learn who this Child born in Bethlehem really is)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ol>\n<li>The Service of the Sacrament (the <strong>Work<\/strong> of Christ)\n<ol>\n<li>The Offering and Offertory: \u2013 in thanksgiving we bring our gifts to God and ask Him to create a clean heart within us. (corresponds to season of Lent as we recognize and acknowledge our need for a new and right spirit)<\/li>\n<li>Preface and <em>Sanctus<\/em>: &#8212; We begin our celebration of Holy Week on Palm Sunday as we join both the angels (Holy, holy, holy) and the crowd (\u201cHosanna, blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord\u201d.)<\/li>\n<li>The <em>Verba<\/em>: Jesus own words \u201ctake, eat, this is my body\u2026take, drink, this is my blood\u201d bring us to Maundy Thursday and the institution of the Lord\u2019s Supper.<\/li>\n<li>The <em>Agnus Dei<\/em>: Jesus is the \u201cLamb of God who takes away the sin of the world\u201d as He is sacrificed on the cross.\u00a0 (Good Friday in the liturgy)<\/li>\n<li>The Distribution: Once again, each week, the resurrected Lord Jesus is present with us not only showing us his body, but giving it to us to eat and drink.\u00a0 (It is Easter as we partake of Christ\u2019s body and blood<\/li>\n<li>The <em>Nunc Dimittis <\/em>and Benediction: (the <strong>Results <\/strong>of Christ\u2019s Word and Sacrament) Lord, now let us depart in peace.\u00a0 We go forth into the world strengthened by God\u2019s Word and Sacrament to accomplish our daily vocations.\u00a0 (corresponds to Pentecost and the sending of the Apostles)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/redeemerlutheranchurch.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/Luther-Church-Year-and-the-Divine-Service.pdf\">Luther, Church Year, &amp; the Divine Service PDF<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Luther, Church Year, and the Divine Service \u00a0By Rev.
