About the Pastor
Pastor Fritsche is a 1973 graduate of Concordia Lutheran Seminary, St. Louis. He holds a Masters of Divinity degree and was ordained into the Holy Ministry at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Cahokia, Illinois. That same year he was called to serve a two-point parish in Bruderheim, Alberta. In addition to his service at Bruderheim, Pastor Fritsche has also served congregations in Luseland, Saskatchewan (Holy Trinity) and Winnipeg, Manitoba (Beautiful Savior). Moving to Edmonton in 2009, Pastor has served congregations in Stony Plain (St. Matthew), Golden Spike (Zion), and Edmonton (All Saints). In 2016, he was asked to serve Redeemer Lutheran Church as Intentional Interim Pastor. He has also served as VP of Lutheran Church Canada, a circuit counsellor, and various committees and boards of district and synod. Pastor and Nancy were married in 1970 and have been blessed with five children and seven grandchildren, most of whom live in Edmonton.
In 1928 the first seeds of Redeemer were planted when Grace Lutheran in Edmonton was approached about the possibility of starting a Sunday school in the then-new Ritchie area. In 1929 a local Methodist church was bought and dedicated that November 17. For many years Grace helped foster Redeemer, through debt problems and when the old building became gradually unsafe by the late 1930s. In 1953 plans were made for a new building, and the present Redeemer Church was dedicated on May 30, 1954. On March 20, 1983, a further expansion was dedicated of the new sanctuary. Through many pastors and the help of many hands, Redeemer Lutheran Church has thrived through the grace of God for nearly a century.
